Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is the story of a slacker Canadian boy who plays bass guitar in the Sex Bob-omb band. He met Ramona flowers, an American girl who had seven evil exes, and eventually fell in love with her. I got a copy of the movie without even bothering what are the reviews. I chose to see the movie for it was recently released. The stars, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Michael Cera were a bit new to me, except for Michael who was in the movie Juno ^(http://www.indiefilmhouse.com/goto/http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0467406/).
Scott needed to fight the seven evil exes of Ramona if he wants to date her. The evil exes possess different kinds of power and ability and attack Scott in a more than ordinary situation. After defeating one evil ex, another one comes along. Scott needs to face them on his own, even dueling a woman, with no assistance from any of his friends. The whole movie circled on Scott’s quest for dating Ramona by fighting and defeating her evil exes and in turn made Scott realized his self-worth.
Surprisingly though, the movie caught 100% of my attention and had me staring at the screen from start until finish. I can’t seem to get my eyes off the monitor for I can’t dare miss any scene and special effects. In this movie, the viewers and spectators are brought to a new world of fighting through video games. The effects were remarkably astounding especially the fighting scenes of Scott and the evil exes. The fighting scenes, which were abundant in the movie, were not just about guns, swords and fists. Some fights were about skateboarding and musicality skills.
What makes the movie unique and wonderful is that it does not show what is commonly shown in other teenage or action movies. It has showcased fighting and romance in a different perspective without moving away from the concept of good vs. evil.
Scott has crashed a wall, fell from a high altitude and was thrown up and down, all these just to defeat the exes. He surpassed all these situations without even breaking a bone. In real life scenario, Scott may have gained broken arms, legs and hips. He would be a candidate for orthopedic procedures like hip replacement and might himself be a victim ofDePuy hip recall ^(http://www.indiefilmhouse.com/goto/http://www.hiprecalllaw.com/). But, Scott Pilgrim is Scott Pilgrim and he has dominated the world.
